Children

Service
Project Ideas
- Collect
children’s clothes, boots, coats, blankets, shoes, hats
and mittens to donate to a local shelter, Goodwill or Easter Seals.
- Donate crafts/project
materials to a local shelter or children’s hospital. (Project
in a Bag – in a plastic bag put all the materials you would
need to make that project/craft.) Parents’ Place in Waukesha
also accepts craft supply donations.
- Have the
girls write inspirational cards or letters to children in a local
shelter or hospital.
- Collect
and donate baby supplies (formula, diapers, rattles, baby food,
wet wipes, etc.) to a local shelter, parenting organization, day
care center for needy families, food pantry or a needy family
through a local church etc. Or make baby boxes with all of the
necessities a new mother would need and donate it to local shelter
or parenting organization.
- Plan a “Children’s
Party” for girls who are not Girl Scouts. Plan activities
that are age appropriate for the girls you would be inviting.
Encourage them to register.
- Make a toy
box for a hospital waiting room.
- Volunteer
your time reading or become a tutor at a local library or school.
- Collect
and donate toys that can be used for Bingo or game nights. (toys
or prizes should not be worth no more than $1).
- Plan a birthday
party for children at a local shelter or hospital (check first)
or collect supplies for birthday boxes and donate them to a local
shelter or food pantry.
- Have a children’s
book drive and donate the books to a local shelter, hospital.
- Design and
donate T-shirts (fun or inspirational) to a local shelter or hospital.
- Volunteer
for the Special Olympics. (Contact your local Park and Recreation
office for more details).
- Collect
and donate stuffed animals to emergency services for children
who have lost everything in a fire or to police who may come into
contact with children placed in foster care.
- Collect
toiletry items for a shelter serving children.
- Volunteer
at the Ronald McDonald House or make meals/treats for the families
staying at the house.
- Make goodie/fun
bags for children in the hospital, children at a shelter or children
in foster care.
- Collect
board games and have a game night at a local hospital (check first)
or shelter.
- Plan a babysitting
night. Offer games and other activities to give parents who can't
afford a babysitter a few hours to themselves.
- Host a safety
workshop for children ages 8-12. Recruit the police and fire department
to attend. Talk about fire safety, "stranger danger,”
phone safety and easy no-cook snacks. You can also play games,
sing songs and create a booklet reminding kids of the safety lessons
you taught them.
- Parents'
Place in Waukesha is looking for volunteers to help out in their
Childcare room. Call 262/549-5575 to get more information on dates
and times.

Remember: if one of the requirements for a recognition is to do
a service project, the girls cannot do the same service project
for the Great Blue Heron Service pin. The girls can also earn the
recognition by completing the required number of activities without
the service activity.
